Have you ever caught yourself saying you want to change, yet staying stuck in the same painful patterns? In the world of Recall Healing and subconscious work, we often encounter a phenomenon that might seem illogical: the secondary gain of remaining a victim.
Your ego isn't your enemy in a literal sense, but its primary job is to ensure survival within known conditions. For the ego, "familiar" equals "safe"—even if that familiarity is built on suffering.
Hidden Gains of the Victim Position
Playing the victim provides the ego with specific "benefits" that can stall your personal evolution:

Avoidance of responsibility: If "they" or "fate" are to blame, you don't have to take action.

Attention and sympathy: Suffering often becomes a currency used to buy attention from others.

Moral superiority: Being the "one who suffers" can make one feel more virtuous than "the villains."

Banging Your Head Against the Wall – Stop fighting the world and release ego blockages.
The ego loves a good fight. We often subconsciously create problems in our lives just to have a target for our anger, guilt, and negative emotions. This is exactly what "banging your head against the wall" looks like. You focus all your energy on the struggle, on the collision with obstacles, and suddenly there is nothing left for genuine growth.
People often expect rewards and praise for their struggle and pain. This is an illusion. In biology and psychology, there is nothing to reward for unnecessary self-harm against a brick wall. True power begins where the fight ends and responsibility starts.
Escaping the Trap
Taking responsibility for what you feel is the first step toward freedom. It is a shift from a reactive mind ("what was done to me") to a creative mind ("what am I manifesting?").
Step 1: Language Architecture
Your words program your subconscious. For the next 24h, replace every "I have to" with "I choose to" (e.g., "I choose to go to work"). Notice if you feel resistance in your body—that's your ego fighting for the old pattern.
Step 2: 5-Minute Awareness Pause
When you feel wronged, don't react. Stop and ask yourself: "What gain does my ego have from suffering right now?". Don't judge the answer, just notice it. Awareness is the end of automation.
Health and balance are our natural states. Symptoms or pain often appear where the ego is trying at all costs to keep us in our comfort zone—even if that zone is painful. Real growth can feel like the ground is being pulled from beneath your feet because the ego panics when it loses control over its "safe suffering." Do not fear this state; it means you are moving forward.

Instead of fueling the fight, start creating positive situations. Release the desire to be "rewarded" for your pain, and you will see how your mind begins to show you entirely new paths.
