Right-Handed vs Left-Handed in Recall Healing: Why Does the Side of the Body Matter?

Why does pain appear on the right side and not the left? Understand the meaning of laterality in psychosomatics and discover what your body is communicating.

"Our diseases are the expression of conflicts that we experience daily deep within our minds and our being."

— Dr. Gilbert Renaud

In the perspective of Recall Healing® (Total Biology), the body never acts randomly. In the body, we are always true. What appears on the physical level is a precise reflection of our emotions, experiences, beliefs, and unresolved internal conflicts.

We often wonder why pain, a rash, tension, or an injury appears specifically on the left knee and not the right. Why does a problem affect the right shoulder and not the left?

The answer lies in the concept of laterality, or biological handedness. Whether you are right-handed or left-handed completely changes the way your nervous system reads and manifests emotional conflicts.

3 Laterality Tests: How to check your biological handedness?

In psychosomatics, handedness is not always about which hand we write with (many left-handed people were forced to switch to their right hand in childhood). It is about our biological, dominant side of reaction.

The best way to check it is by performing these 3 simple tests (do them without thinking):

The Clap Test: Bring your hands together as if you were applauding. Notice which hand strikes from the top (is active) and which is on the bottom (receives the strike). The hand striking from the top is usually your dominant side.

The Needle Threading Test: Imagine threading a needle. Which hand holds the needle steady (passive), and which hand precisely maneuvers the thread (active)?

The Toothbrush Test: Which hand do you instinctively grab your toothbrush with? That hand does the most important, precise work.

In Recall Healing, the side of the body where a symptom appears is a precise signpost pointing to the area of your life (and the relationship with whom) where a stressful conflict occurred.

The Dominant Side (Active)

Your dominant side is the right side of the body for right-handed people and the left side for left-handed people. It is the zone representing the energy of action, our ego, identity, and personal sphere.

When emotional tension and symptoms appear on the dominant side, from the perspective of Recall Healing, it is often observed that the conflict relates to:

Your personal and emotional sphere: Your image, ambitions, self-worth in action.

The active and "attacking" side: Situations where you feel you must achieve something, fight for something, or go out into the world.

Giving: Issues related to what you give to the world (e.g., at work, in a career).

Partner / horizontal relationships: In classic psychosomatics, the dominant side (the right for right-handed individuals) often reflects relationships with "equals": a partner, siblings, friends, father, or coworkers.

The Non-Dominant Side (Passive)

Your non-dominant side is the left side of the body for right-handed people and the right side for left-handed people. This is the zone responsible for what we receive, for our nurturing relationships, and our inner sense of security.

When a biological conflict manifests on the non-dominant side, it is usually associated with topics such as:

Relationships and responsibility for others: The passive side is strongly connected to relationships where we feel responsible or are under someone's care.

The receiving and "defending" side: Situations where you feel you must accept something imposed, or defend your territory from an intruder. Retreating or protecting boundaries.

"Vertical" relationships (mother/child): In Recall Healing, the left side of a right-handed person (and the right side of a left-handed person) most often symbolizes the area of the nest: the relationship with the mother, with one's own children, and sometimes with something we treat as our own child (a business, a project, a pet).

The Key to Decoding Symptoms: Who is Who for Your Body?

To read the signals from your body even more accurately, psychosomatics uses a very practical division of relationships. See how your nervous system categorizes the people in your environment:

The Nest Zone (Mother and Child): For right-handed individuals, it is always the left side of the body that reacts to tension and stress in the relationship with their mother or their own children. This is the area of care, nurturing, and our most primal bonds.

The Partner Zone: On the other hand, the right side (in right-handed people) takes on conflicts with so-called "partners." Importantly, for our biology, a partner is anyone who is not a mother or a child. So this could be a life partner, father, friend, boss, coworker, sibling, or even a beloved pet.

The Mirror Principle: If you are a left-handed person, your organism simply reverses this pattern. Your right side becomes the nest space (mother/child), and your left side takes over the partner and horizontal relationships.

Summary: Left-Handed vs Right-Handed

To help you navigate the messages of your body, look at the comparison below. It shows what a given side of the body may symbolize from the perspective of Recall Healing, depending on your biological handedness:

Side of the Body Right-Handed Person Left-Handed Person
RIGHT Side Dominant Side (Active)
Personal, emotional, feeling. Responsible for action ("attacks" and "gives"). Often symbolizes the father, partner, peers, work.
Non-Dominant Side (Passive)
Responsible for relationships, submissive. Responsible for receiving and defending. Often symbolizes the mother, children, or a project ("nest").
LEFT Side Non-Dominant Side (Passive)
Responsible for relationships, submissive. Responsible for receiving and defending. Often symbolizes the mother, children, or a project ("nest").
Dominant Side (Active)
Personal, emotional, feeling. Responsible for action ("attacks" and "gives"). Often symbolizes the father, partner, peers, work.

How to work with this knowledge?

When your body starts reporting a problem, knowledge about laterality is your first filter. Instead of looking for the cause everywhere, you combine the general meaning of a given body part with the knowledge of the side on which the symptom occurs.

For example, as a right-handed person analyzing a shoulder conflict:

If your left shoulder hurts, you have a clue to look for an emotional stressor in the nest zone (mother, child).

If your right shoulder hurts, you have a clue to look for a stressor in the partner zone (partner, father, friend, coworker).

This way, you have a much broader perspective on the matter—you don't just look at the shoulder conflict itself, but you immediately narrow the search field and know exactly in which relationship the stressor is hidden.

Decoding the conflict involves looking closely at the situation that triggered the stress in you, and then making it conscious. Often, just seeing and understanding the subconscious pattern allows the body to exit alarm mode and begin the process of returning to balance.

Your Navigation: Self-Coaching Task

Before you ignore another "random" discomfort on one side of your body, pause for a moment and answer these questions:

1 With whom in my environment do I have an unresolved issue that causes the greatest tension in me? (Notice if this fits the profile of your right or left side).
2 In what area do I feel the greatest resistance? (Is it in action/earning/achieving, or rather in receiving/relationships/being a mother or daughter?)
3 What would my body have to attack, or what would it have to defend against, if I allowed myself to feel anger without shame?

Remember that your body is always on your side. It doesn't create pain to punish you—it uses it to communicate what your conscious mind may not yet want or be able to see.
